How InstaLOD automated Lightshape's pipeline to help create a complex automotive drivetrain in AR.
Lightshape is an award-winning company based in Germany. Founded in 2007, the firm quickly became a pioneer of digital reality through 3D innovation. The team combines many years of experience and extensive technical know-how in all areas of digital media communication with storytelling and a cross-media approach. While they are best known for their multi-user collaboration software HCC, their everyday business involves creating digital product experiences. The team provides flexible project solutions and interactive tailor- made applications in the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality, and 3D visualization for a variety of industries.
Lightshape is particularly renowned for its expertise in the automotive sector. Their teams are experienced in staging vehicle designs and integrating complex technical models into real-time applications.
Enabling enterprise companies to implement a sustainable 3D strategy throughout their organization while achieving massive time and cost-savings.
In their constant search for ways to optimize and improve, it was only a matter of time until Lightshape discovered InstaLOD. Immediately, the interactive team started experimenting with the excellent tessellation algorithms the software has to offer which, combined with InstaLOD’s intelligent optimization and remeshing tools achieved fantastic results.
InstaLOD changed all that. Complex, non- manifold meshes that generally put both hardware and software on the brink of failure, were being handled automatically with remarkable speed and quality. Remeshing an entire section of the 3D automotive drive train model in less than an hour became the new reality. This allowed the removal of 99.9% of the original polygon count, provided UV coordinates, baked textures and was AR and VR application-ready.
"We use InstaLOD in our productive workflow almost every day. Without this revolutionary tool, some of our projects wouldn't have been feasible in the first place." - Tristan Werner, Lead Artist
